  SFC W. Steele  was born on 15 November 1964 in Cheyenne, Wyoming,.  He graduated from East High School in Cheyenne, Wyoming in 1983, and attended New Mexico State University prior to enlisting. He enlisted in the delayed entry program in 1990 and left for Fort Sill, Oklahoma for basic training on 2 November 1990. He has two children: a son Darian (10) and  a daughter Hannah (16).

    
Military assignments:

ADA ( E,F-BTRY) 3/43/ADA at Fort Bliss Tx. from 1991 to 1994 during this time SFC W. Steele was deployed for Desert Shield, Desert Storm and Desert Sentry. He was then transferred to Sentry. After he was transferred to Germany and assigned to 69th ADA BDE (6/52 ADA) at Ansbach, Germany from 1995 to 1998.  During this time SFC W. Steele was deployed for Operation Southern Watch and Northern Watch in SWA. He then returned to the States for an assignment as a Detailed Recruiter and was assigned to Tampa Recruiting Battalion with duty at Altamonte Springs Recruiting Station from 1998 to 2001.  SFC W. Steele transferred back to Germany and assigned to 69th ADA BDE (6/52 ADA) at Ansbach, Germany from 2001 to 2004. During this time he was deployed in support on Operation Enduring Freedom in SWA.    SFC W. Steele returned to the States for assignment to Albany Recruiting Battalion with duty at Hartford Recruiting Company as an On Production Station Commander for Bristol Recruiting Station from 2004 to 2005. In 2005, he assumed command of Torrington Recruiting Station as On Production Station Commander from 2005 to 2006. In May 2006,  SFC W. Steele assumed command of Waterbury Recruiting Station. In March 2009, he assumed command of Danbury Recruiting Station as a Station Commander.

     Military decorations include the Glenn E. Morrell Award, Army Recruiting Ring, Gold Recruiting Badge with 3 Sapphires, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Valorous Unit Award, Army Superior Unit Award (1 OLC), the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (1 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (3 OLC), Good Conduct Medal (6th award), National Defense Service Medal (2nd award), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Southwest Asia Service Ribbon (with bronze service star), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon (3rd award), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (2nd award), Saudi Arabian Kuwait Liberation Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal.

Rev. ROGER  W.  BARKER
Chaplain – Bristol Veterans Council

Rev. Barker is originally from Northern Maine, (Ashland).  During the summer between his Jr. and Sr.  years of High School, he entered the Army National Guards 1st Battalion 152nd Field Artillery C Battery where he was a crewmember on a 155 Howitzer Cannon.  After graduating H.S.  he transferred to the U.S. Air Force where he served as ground support for the 509th Bomb Wing out of Pease AFB Portsmouth NH for 1 and half years.  In 1986 he transferred to the 316th transportation squadron at Ramstein AFB Germany, where he served 4 years in Fleet management and as a member of the base Crash Recovery Team.  During the end of his tenure with the 316th  (SGT) Barker was responsible for supplying equipment for the military buildup after the invasion of Kuwait by Iraq in support of Dessert Shield. 

After his Military service he relocated to Southing Ct. where he voluntarily worked with Youth at the Advent Christian Camp Grounds in Southington for 10 years.  In June of 2000 he heeded the call of God to full time Ministry and began his training and schooling to become a full time Ordained Minister of the Gospel.  In February of 2002 he was Ordained.    Rev. Barker is now the Pastor of the Calvary Advent Christian Church of Bristol Ct.  where he has served since June of 2002.  In March of 2007 Rev. Barker was asked to serve as the Chaplain of the Bristol Veterans Council.  In July 2008, Rev. Roger Barker (and his wife Michelle) leave Bristol CT.  to serve a new church and community in Panama Beach, Florida.

ROBERT  WILLIAM  SCHILLING
December 14, 1925  -  July 9, 2010

 

Robert W. Schilling, 84, of Bristol, passed away peacefully at home. He enlisted in the US Navy at the age of 17. He served his country for four years during World War II. He led a full and active life and kept involved in countless organizations, creating a wide circle of friends. He was a member of the Local #478 operating engineers, the Burlington Ave. Community Club, the Korean War Veterans Association, the Elks, and the American Legion Post 2 in Bristol.

JOHN  (JACK)  DENEHY
June 13, 1934 - April 30, 2010



John J.  Denehy, Jr.
75, of Bristol died  after a brief illness on Friday, April 30, 2010 at Bristol Hospital. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War and then joined the military reserves. He served with the Connecticut Air National Guard and eventually retired from the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve as a chief petty Officer. Due to his great respect for the military and love of history, he founded the Memorial Military Museum, Inc. It was started as a bicentennial project to pay tribute to the veterans of the city of Bristol and to preserve their stories. Mr. Denehy was a retired Bristol school teacher and was an active member of the Bristol Choral Society, the Bristol Historical Society, the St-Ann's Choir, the Bristol American Legion Seicheprey Post #2 and the Korean War Veterans Association.  His wife Carol resides in Bristol.

ANTHONY  V.  SAVINO

Command Sergeant Major (Retired) Anthony V. Savino was born in Bristol, Connecticut on August 6, 1936. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve on July 9, 1956 and was ordered to active duty on August 14, 1956. Upon completion of basic training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina and advanced individual training at Fort Knox, Kentucky, he was assigned as a tank gunnery instructor at Fort Irwin, California.  He was transferred to Korea in July 1957 where he served as a tank commander with Tank Company, 19th Infantry Regiment, 24th Infantry Division, and then Headquarters Company, 8th Cavalry, 1st Cavalry Division until his return to the United States in August 1958.  CSM Savino was assigned to the 13th Corps, U.S. Army Reserve until his enlistment in the Connecticut Army National Guard on January 5, 1959.  He has served in positions of radio operator, mortar gunner, Supply Sergeant, Personnel Staff NCO, and First Sergeant of various Infantry rifle companies in the 169th Infantry and the Headquarters Company, 43d Brigade, 26th (Yankee) Infantry Division.

CSM Savino was selected as the Command Sergeant Major of the 43d Brigade on April 26, 1969 and promoted to Sergeant Major on July 1, 1970.  He was appointed Command Sergeant Major on August 1, 1971 by the Department of the Army Command Sergeant Major Selection Board. CSM Savino served as the 43d Brigade CSM until September 30, 1979 when he was transferred to the position of Command Sergeant Major/Commandant of the Connecticut Military Academy/NCO School, which he held until his appointment as the State Command Sergeant Major on October 8, 1980. CSM Savino was a National Guard technician with 23 years of service having served as a Unit Supply Sergeant, Unit Administrator for several units, Command Administrative Specialist, Traffic Manager, and effective January 1, 1981, as the State Command Sergeant Major on an AGR tour.

He was a former member of the Bristol Democratic Town Committee, member and secretary of the Bristol, CT Veteran’s Council, Executive Director  and secretary of the Bristol Tramps Sports Reunion Committee and a member of St. Anthony’s Church Parish Council. CSM Savino was employed as the Transit Manager for the Central Connecticut Regional Planning Agency in Bristol, Connecticut.

His wife, Deanna, still resides in Bristol.
They have 2 children, Cathy Ann and SFC Anthony Jr. and his wife Rebecca.  They have two granddaughters, Elise and Olivia.
